Gantry machining centers for large parts
Assess the complete workpiece envelope, mass, fixture and machining access when reviewing gantry options for frames, weldments, mold bases or other large structures.
Define the largest recurring workpiece
- Provide length, width, height, mass, material, blank condition and the surfaces to be machined. Include fixture dimensions and the space needed for tool access.
- Explain whether the job involves a machine frame, welded base, large plate, mold structure or another workpiece. Identify the reference datums and accuracy requirements.
Compare configuration against the process
- Use original product tables to review travel, table size and load, spindle configuration and clearance. Workpiece dimensions alone do not establish suitability.
- Describe flat faces, multiple sides and any contoured surfaces. The technical team should review whether the work requires a conventional or multi-axis arrangement and the appropriate tooling.
Plan installation and delivery
- Discuss floor space, loading access, lifting, foundation requirements, power supply and machine positioning before finalizing the selection.
- Provide destination and packing requirements together with the drawing and weight. Final configuration, installation responsibilities, delivery scope and price are confirmed in the individual quotation and order.
