CNC lathe requirements for hydraulic cylinder parts
Cylinder tubes, piston rods, sleeves and long shafts can require different workholding, support and machining arrangements. Review each part family before choosing a lathe.
Identify the workpiece range
- For tubes, provide outer and inner diameter, length, material and chuck or support requirements.
- For rods and shafts, provide length, diameter, material, blank condition, tolerances and surface requirements.
Describe the operations and support
- List turning, boring, facing or threading operations and explain the planned loading and support method.
- Clarify whether the work is repair, small batches or repeat production. Review spindle passage, chucking and support with the technical team.

- Include a drawing or dimensional description, material or hardness if known, quantities, destination and workshop electrical supply.
- Whether one lathe can cover tubes and rods depends on both workpiece ranges and the proposed process. Final capacity and configuration require review against the original specifications and human technical confirmation.
